Board of Director's -- APRIL -- Regular Meeting

 

CALL TO ORDER: Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - Secretary J. Huss convened the meeting to order at 18:00 hours.
ROLL CALL: R. Reinhart, President (POL); J.K. Muller, Vice-President POL); J. Huss, Secretary; D. Hashin, Treasurer; A. Preece, Sergeant-at-Arms/ Director; C. Bales, Director; E.N. Evenson, Director (ABS); J. Allard, Director; J. Nelson, Director.
OTHER MEMBERS PRESENT: None.
GUESTS: None.

MINUTES: Minutes for Regular Meeting March 10, 2004 accepted on motion by C. Bales and J. Nelson, with all concurring.
TREASURER REPORT: D. Hashin presented the Treasurer's Report. D. Hashin also mentioned that LDF rates will be reduced in July. More discussion on this topic under new business.


OLD BUSINESS
CASINO NIGHT: D. Hashin said that the POA's 40th Anniversary Party held on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the Huntington Beach Elks Lodge was very successful, by those that attended and had fun. He also thanked the various sponsors of the gaming tables too.

D, Hashin hoped that E.N. Evenson would have a final financial report at the next Regular Meeting. On a preliminary review of the finances he said that the event was just short of breaking even.
TRAINING CLASS: D. Hashin said that the class, R. Reinhart had requested to attend that was presented being by Libert, Cassidy & Whitmore in San Francisco, CA on March 25-26, 2004, he was informed upon arrival that he would be barred from attending most of the classes. Tuition monies were refunded. www.LCWlegal.com
PORAC LABOR SYMPOSIUM: Reminder of the PORAC Labor Symposium in Palm Springs on April 20-22, 2004. Attendees scheduled are: J.K. Muller, J. Huss, J. Allard, C. Bales, E.N. Evenson, D. Hashin - R. Reinhart attending on behalf of PORAC.


NEW BUSINESS
LEGAL DEFENSE FUND
: D. Hashin said that LDF rates would be reduced for the next year, which was based on our past usage. Rate change is from $34.25 to $24.50 per month/ per member. Discussion held on LDF's "Non-scope Coverage Option" Plan, with a $5.00 per month/ per member cost for the first year. Motion by J. Huss and C. Bales to enroll the POA membership into this plan with the monies saved in the LDF Plan cost reduction, with all concurring. It was also suggested that the membership be advised of the enrollment in the plan via either mail or a future JFA article.


STREET COPS AWARDS: J. Huss presented the nominations for the 9th Annual Street Cops Awards to be hosted by the Huntington Beach Elks Lodge 1959 on May, 1, 2004. Discussion held and the honorees for the respective categories are:

Patrol - Senior Sergeant J. Barry Case
Detectives - Detective Mike Nakama
Aero/ Traffic Bureau - Senior Police Officer/ Pilot Tim Lynn
Police Services - Police Records Specialist Bonnie Meakin

Our congratulations to these award recipients and to all of those who were nominated. J. Huss will handle notification to the award recipients and honorable mentions.
CHRISTMAS PARTY: D. Hashin said that he has reserved the Hyatt Hotel again for this year's Christmas Party on Sunday, December 5, 2004. The POA will receive the same price structure for the event as we did in 2003. Entertainment will be reviewed for a change in that format - DJ/ impersonators/ magicians/ comedians. Many members have requested a DJ format rather than a band and we will be going that way for entertainment.
SENIORITY RANKING: Reviewed the proposed changes to 'seniority ranking' as it applies to the membership. Discussion held.
COMMUNICATIONS BREAKFAST: (03-30-04) R. Reinhart requested a donation to the Communications Unit breakfast honoring them during National Telecommunications Week, April 11-17, 2004 and asked for $100.00. Motion by J. Allard and J.K. Muller to donate a $100.00 to the dispatcher breakfast, with all concurring.


COMMITTEES
NEGOTIATIONS COMMITTEE
: Information has been received that the pending 'tax question' was being returned favorable toward the POA, but there was nothing official as of yet. No new negotiations meetings have been scheduled.
