Board of Director's -- DECEMBER -- Regular Meeting
CALL TO ORDER: Wednesday, December 12, 2001 -
Vice-President J.K. Muller convened the meeting to order at 15:30 hours.
ROLL CALL: R. Reinhart, President; J.K. Muller,
Vice-President; J. Huss, Secretary; D. Hashin, Treasurer; A. Preece,
Sergeant-at-Arms/ Director; B. Reed, Director (NYC); R. Frahm, Director
(NYC); S. Ekstedt, Director (NYC); G. Coerper, Director (NYC).
OTHER MEMBERS PRESENT: None.
GUESTS: M. Reid, G. Petersen, A. Reedy.
MINUTES: Motion by J.K. Muller and A. Preece to
accept the minutes as written for November 14, 2001 meeting, with all
concurring.
TREASURER REPORT: D. Hashin distributed the
December’s Treasurer’s Report and gave an overview of the POA’s accounts
and balance(s). Motion by J.K. Muller and A.Preece to accept the
Treasurer’s Report with all concurring.
Motion by J.K. Muller and A. Preece to hire Alan Reedy,
Attorney at Law, regarding the POA’s corporate interests on a retainer for
tax service and legal advice. Retainer fee $5,000.00, with all concurring.
Motion by D. Hashin and J.K. Muller to pay the POA’s
accounting firm, Jones, McGinty & Parquet for $700.00, with all
concurring.
EXCUTIVE SESSION: Discussion of the Range Lawsuit filed
by the City against the POA and how to best proceed with this litigation.
OLD BUSINESS
PARKING CONTROL OFFICERS: R. Reinhardt said that
the City and Department have said that they oppose the PCO’s joining the
POA.
CHRISTMAS PARTY: R. Reinhardt said that the
Christmas Party was successful and enjoyed by about 150 people. The “new”
gift distribution was very favorable to the attendees as well. He also
thanked R. Frahm, D. Hashin, and B. Reed and all the others who helped
with the party planned and success.
POA SCHOLARSHIP: The Annual Scholarship Award was
presented to Miss Courtney Hamada at the POA Christmas Party.
Congratulations to her for this honor.

R. Reinhardt said that the attendance at the “How To Run A Police/ Fire
Union” Seminar was very beneficial for the Executive Board. A brief
overview was given to the rest of the Board of Directors, with many new
ideas presented to better the POA and membership.
NEW BUSINESS
RANGE LAWSUIT: (12-02-01) Discussion held via email
conference as to the range lawsuit filed by the City against the POA for
"pollution" cleanup of the range. R. Reinhart requested that he be
permitted to seek financial assistance from members of the PMA, many of
whom were members of the POA during the operation of the range by the POA,
and some even served on the Board of Directors, to help with the funding
of the legal defense litigation with us. Motion by G. Coerper and J. Huss
authorizing the president to make a formal written request to the PMA
(This joint action would be similar to fighting the PERS lawsuit against
the City.) for financial assistance.
D. Hashin had recommended that the POA collect and
handle the disbursement of funds based on the direction of the POA Board
of Directors. Motion carried.
PERS LAWSUIT: Motion by A. Preece and J. Huss to
make a payment on the PERS Lawsuit to the HBFA in the amount of $5,000.00,
with all concurring.
PEACE OFFICERS COUNSEL OF CALIFORNIA: R. Reinhardt
said that he would like to see how new PERB regulations will apply to
non-sworn members of the POA and if they will benefit our members. M. Reid
to research PERB application to the POA.
INSURANCE: D. Hashin requested approval for payment
of the POA’s errors and omissions insurance with Professional Choice
Insurance Service for the Board of Directors. Motion by D. Hashin and A.
Preece, with all concurring.
PETERSEN LAW FIRM: Motion by A. Preece and J.K.
Muller to pay on the POA’s outstanding legal fees $15,000.00, with all
concurring.
