Board of Director's -- APRIL -- Regular Meeting

 

CALL TO ORDER: Wednesday, April 11, 2001 – President R. Reinhart convened the meeting to order at 15:50 hours.

ROLL CALL: R. Reinhart, President; J.K. Muller, Vice-President; J. Huss, Secretary; D. Hashin, Treasurer (ILL); A. Preece, Sergeant-at-Arms/ Director; B. Reed, Director; R. Frahm, Director; S. Fullmer, Director; G. Coerper, Director.

OTHER MEMBERS PRESENT: J. McMillan, T. Gilligan, M. Nakama. 

GUESTS: M. Reid, P. Julien-Houchen.

 

MINUTES: Motion by J.K. Muller and G. Coerper to accept the minutes as written for March 13, 2001 meeting, with all concurring. 

TREASURER REPORT: R. Frahm gave an overview of the POA’s accounts and balance(s).

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION: R. Reinhart discussed the status of various lawsuits as identified in an April 2, 2001 letter from The Petersen Law Firm.  Discussion held. 

 

NEW BUSINESS

LEGAL DEFENSE FUND: Effective 07-01-01 the LDF rates will be $24.50/ per month ($5.50 reduction).  R. Reinhart said he wants to present a deductible plan to continue to control cost and with savings pay for education/ training/ deductible payment.  This plan will be discussed at the next General Membership Meeting.

AB402: Letter to be received soon from PORAC President were, PORAC LDF is considering establishing a fund associations to participate in a “collective” funding of arbitration matters.  Plan is still being considered and developed.  R. Reinhart feels that the POA would be able to establish our own fund.  Education of POA representatives will be necessary too. 

AOCDS: The Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs’ will be hosting the next Orange County cops association meeting on April 25, 2001 seeking to form a local PAC fund.  R. Reinhart will attend the meeting to voice the POA’s decline in participation of the proposed PAC. 

LONG TERM DISABILITY: R. Reinhart said that the PORAC LTD Plan offered through Myers & Stevens Insurance requires 50% plus one for enrollment, thus the plan is not available to the non-sworn members of the POA.  CLEA is still suppose to be searching for another plan for non-sworn to determine if there would be a better plan than the one offered by Hartford Insurance. 

COMMITTEES

NEGOTIATION COMMITTEE:  R. Reinhart said that he has been working on obtaining clarification of language for the MOU and if the City Council approves the management language the POA membership should be asked if the language is approved as drafted give authority to the Board of Directors to ratify the MOU as it is.  Discussion and review of items to be clarified in MOU was held.
